Real Madrid, which trailed 3-2 early in the second half, started its comeback on a goal from Raul in the 63rd and van Nistelrooy locked up all three points 10 minutes later.
Robinho scored Real Madrid's first two goals. Fernando Varela scored two goals for Mallorca.
Real (9-2-1) needed the win to stay atop the league and has a one-point lead on Villarreal, which edged Sevilla 3-2 on Sunday. Barcelona and Valencia are four points back.
Real Madrid gained control of the match early when Robinho scored the first of his two goals in the 12th minute.
Although Varela answered with goal in the 14th, Robinho put the Spanish giants back on top in the 17th.
Mallorca tied the match again 20 minutes later when Varela connected again and took the lead in the 58th when Daniel Guiza scored his seventh of the season.
Raul pulled Real level in the 63rd and van Nistelrooy completed the rally in the 73rd. Raul and van Nistelrooy each have six goals this season.
Mallorca (5-5-0) wasted a chance to stun Real and sits ninth in the league, 12 points behind the leaders.
Villarreal (9-3-0) picked up the win over Sevilla thanks to Matias Fernandez's penalty kick in the 86th minute.
Guillermo Franco scored Villarreal's first two goals. Frederic Kanoute and Luis Fabiano, who took over the La Liga lead with his eighth goal, scored for Sevilla (5-6-0).
Also on Sunday, Espanyol edged Athletic Bilbao 2-1 on an own goal in the 90th minute to extend its unbeaten run to eight games, Mariano Pavone scored twice in the final 10 minutes as Real Betis beat Real Zaragoza 2-1, Jonathan Sesma scored in the 64th minute as Real Valladolid defeated Levante 1-0 to extend its unbeaten run to four games, Mohamed Tchite scored in the 69th as Racing beat Deportivo 1-0, Carlos Martins scored in the 70th as Recreativo edged Osasuna 1-0, and Atletico Madrid tied Almeria 0-0.

Huskers' Lucky hospitalized for undisclosed reason
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.
The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.
